Longtime readers of Wealth Systems know our definition of wealth is different to most.
While financial net worth is a vital part of forming a stable foundation under your family, our definition focuses on a different form of affluence: time affluence. We discussed this deeply in the below article, a great intro read for new Wealth System builders:
Speed and Range are two concepts we covered as a part of our time affluence study.
To boil it down as simply as possible:
Speed - grants the power to control one's time, benefit from more turns of compounding force and more iterations of development
Range - represents the comprehensive scope of people and environments one can access
If Speed governs pace and autonomy, Range governs perspective and exposure.
The power is when these two are combined. You can act fast and take advantage of opportunities. You can make mistakes and improve from them. You can deploy your resources strategically to maximize how much money youโre making (and reduce expenses / liabilities, too). You can gather more information and analyze a wider universe of opportunities.
That means building your wealth through speed and range development is a paramount objective. You are literally giving yourself and your loved ones a bigger and safer life.
A wealthy person typically scores well on both speed and range.
Thereโs a third element that they donโt score as well onโฆ This critical dimension is an area where โlittle guysโ can catch up.
I love areas like that - because compared to the โMasters of the Universeโ we are ALL little guys. So letโs build up our wealth engines to compete!
Urgency
Many tasks and goals in life are important.
We recognize their value and potential impact. However, it's the element of urgency that truly separates those who achieve from those who merely aspire. Urgency injects momentum, focus, and a bias towards action. It transforms intention into execution.
Think of it this way:
Importance signifies something that holds value or significance. It's about what matters in the long run.
Urgency relates to the immediacy of a task or goal. It's about when something needs to be addressed.
The Difference Maker
Urgency forces us to prioritize.
When something is urgent, it demands our attention and compels us to act, pushing less urgent tasks aside.
Urgency eliminates distractions. It creates a sense of purpose and narrows our focus to the task at hand, increasing our efficiency and effectiveness.
Urgency fuels momentum. By tackling urgent tasks promptly, we build momentum and create a sense of progress, which further motivates us to achieve more.
Urgency ensures timely execution. Many opportunities have a limited window. Urgency helps us seize those opportunities before they slip away.
This becomes a major differentiator among those who already benefit from speed and range. Urgency also helps you develop both speed and range! The key is to prioritize tasks that are both important and urgent, while also allocating time for important but less urgent activities.
Urgency is the driving force that transforms important goals into tangible achievements. It's the catalyst that propels us forward, compels us to act, and ultimately determines our success. By understanding the distinction between urgency and importance, and by effectively prioritizing our tasks, we can harness the power of urgency to achieve our goals and reach our full potential.
Key point โ I am not arguing that the wealthy are lazy, far from it, most are ambitious and competitive types who donโt want to be outmatched at the Country Club or in the Board Room. Many are gifted organizers and prioritizers - the benefits of attending elite academies before graduating from ivy league institutions, all the while benefiting from the best private tutors.
That makes you quiet polished.
But are you driven?
When you have the power of urgency and the gifts of speed and reach you live a limitless life. You can react to opportunities and challenges with lightning speed. This allows you to seize fleeting opportunities that others might miss and mitigate risks before they escalate.
With access to all three qualities you will experience the fastest personal growth of your life. Thatโs what happened in my life.
With each rapid iteration you gain experience and knowledge at an accelerated pace. Mistakes become valuable lessons that fuel even faster progress. You can quickly identify the most promising opportunities and deploy your resources (time, money, energy) with precision and efficiency.
Your expanded range, combined with the ability to act quickly, opens doors to a wider array of possibilities. You can explore new markets, connect with diverse individuals, and tap into a broader range of resources.
Rapid responses across a wider range make you incredibly adaptable to changing circumstances. You can pivot quickly and thrive in dynamic environments.
By acting with both speed and range, you can accomplish significantly more in less time. This leads to a greater volume of output, whether it's creative projects, business ventures, or personal goals. Your ability to act decisively and across diverse domains amplifies your influence and impact.
You are a catalyst for change and a force to be reckoned with.
Some folks have an issue telling the difference between Speed and Urgency.
Speed is control of time, efficient execution, iterative developmentโฆ a constantly compounding force. It's about how quickly you can do things and improve.
This enables more "turns" or iterations, leading to faster learning, development, and compounding returns. Think of it as the engine's RPMs. A faster engine allows for more potential progress in a given timeframe.
Ultimately speed leads to efficiency, velocity and a high rate of progress. It's the potential for rapid action.
Urgency is a domain of prioritization, immediate action, momentum, seizing opportunities with limited windows.
It's about when you need to do things. Itโs about your drive.
Urgency comes with many gifts: focus, eliminated distractions, strong and building momentum. Life comes down to timely execution especially for time-sensitive opportunities.
It's the driver pushing the engine forward. ย
Responding immediately to a critical market change, launching a product before a competitor, taking advantage of a limited-time investment opportunityโฆ. thatโs urgency.
Being fast allows you to capitalize on urgent situations. If you're slow, even the most urgent opportunity might pass you by.
Knowing what's urgent helps you direct your speed effectively. You don't want to be fast in the wrong direction. Urgency helps you prioritize where to apply your speed.
You want to develop the ability to move quickly and know when to move quickly. All us "little guys" can compete by developing a strong sense of Urgency and using it to guide our Speed, effectively maximizing limited resources and catching opportunities that the "Masters of the Universe" might miss due to their potentially slower reaction times or broader focus.
Combining Speed, Range, and Urgency creates a potent formula for achieving extraordinary results.
Think of it like this:
Speed is the engine.
Range is the navigation system.
Urgency is the fuel and the pilotโs drive to succeed
Together, they propel you towards your goals with exceptional force and efficiency.
This combination is incredibly valuable in today's fast-paced, interconnected world, where opportunities emerge and disappear quickly, and adaptability is key to success.
Speed and Range are heavily amplified by having lots of money, but urgency doesnโt get that same tailwind. In some cases, people โlet off the gasโ and thatโs when the urgency dimension becomes a headwind for their life progression.
Having an internal fire that is focused is a resource you canโt replace.
Find out what motivates you and optimize the environment around you to ensure you keep those fires lit.
Onward and upward, my friends!

Fascinating stuff! I wonder how this playbook would look like when agency is added. Agency + Urgency + Speed + range
Yoo friend, saw Eisenhower Matrix here! โจ
Thanks, plus this gorgeous concept:
- Speed is the engine.
- Range is the navigation system.
- Urgency is the fuel and the pilotโs drive to succeed
